ScourStop the Rip-Rap Alternative

ScourStop Transition Mat (TM) is an alternative to rip-rap.  It is placed at the outlet of a pipe or parking lot to prevent scour of the soil caused by concentrated flows.  ScourStop is a UV-protected HDPE plastic mat.  It is secured by anchors driven into the ground a minimum of 12".  Scourstop is a green solution that allows for easy maintenance in the future.

 ScourStop is pictured above protecting the outlet of a box culvert under Ankeny Boulevard.  Picture to the right is just after installation in early fall of 2005.  Picture to the left is the same installation in early fall of 2006 just after 2" storm event.  Additional mats were added in the spring of 2006. (Ankeny, Iowa)
